How does the service agreement work?

When a covered item breaks down, simply log your service request online in a few easy steps, or call our toll-free number 24 hours a day. Your request will be dispatched to an approved and insured contractor in your area. They will contact you to set up an appointment, or you may call them directly to expedite the process. When the contractor comes to your home, you pay a low service fee that varies by state. The contractor makes the covered repairs and bills 2-10 HBW for all of the work. You owe nothing more.

How do I know if my service contractor is qualified?

Our network of more than 10,000 contractors are all approved and insured. They must be qualified to enroll into HBW’s program and are monitored regularly and graded by our customers. Preferred contractors in your area earn the highest quality scores from our customers and perform repairs for HBW the most quickly. Your favorite contractors are probably already in our network.

How is a service agreement different from homeowner’s insurance?

Homeowner’s insurance is often included in your mortgage and covers loss from incidents like fire, storms and vandalism. A Home Warranty Service Agreement covers major systems and appliances within your home from breakdowns caused by normal wear and tear. The two are complementary and do not overlap coverage.

What is a “structural defect”?

A structural defect is defined as actual physical damage to the designated load-bearing elements of the home caused by failure of such load-bearing elements which affects their load-bearing functions to the extent that the home becomes unsafe, unsanitary or otherwise unlivable. This is coverage for catastrophic failure of load-bearing elements as defined in the HBW 307 warranty booklet.
