Energy Efficient Summer

Grill More. Did you know that outdoor grills use less energy than indoor ovens? They also keep heat out of the house, lowering your AC costs.

Conserve Water. Let your grass go dormant during dry summer periods instead of watering regularly. Instead, use water resources for planting new trees and vegetable gardens.

Unplug. With so many outdoor activities to do, there’s no need for all your electronic devices to be plugged in. Consider unplugging computers, printers and televisions.

Crack down on cracks.  Look for air leaks in your home. Pick a windy day, and then carefully hold a lit incense stick or a smoke pen next to your windows, doors, electrical outlets and other spots where air could be leaking into your home from outside. If the smoke stream moves horizontally, you’ve found a leak that needs to be sealed.
